Willowdale Truffles

Willowdale Truffles is a proudly South African producer of Black Winter Truffles (Tuber melanosporum), grown in the mineral-rich soils of the Southern Drakensberg. The farm began establishing its first orchard in 2011 and harvested its first truffles in 2016. Today, its 30 hectares of orchards contain nearly 18,000 trees, making Willowdale the largest single-source producer of Black Winter Truffles on the African continent.

The farm’s high-altitude orchards benefit from natural summer storms, mountain spring and stream water, and cold winters that help bring the truffles to maturity. During the harvest season, which runs from mid-June to the end of August, specially trained dogs locate the truffles. Each is checked for ripeness and aroma, harvested by hand, gently washed, and graded against strict quality standards.

Willowdale harvests weekly to order and ships fresh truffles directly from the farm to customers worldwide using expedited cold-chain delivery. Its focus on careful orchard management, quality, and freshness has earned its truffles recognition among chefs and quality menus globally.
