Willow River Equine Rescue

Willow River Equine Rescue (WRER) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Maple Valley, Washington, dedicated to giving horses a safer future. Established in December 2019, the organization grew from its founders’ earlier efforts to save and rehome horses, beginning with two mares whose stories inspired the rescue’s mission. WRER rescues horses from wild and domestic neglect, rehabilitates and trains them, and works to find permanent homes where they can live safely.

Its work includes caring for surrendered horses and supporting other equestrians with training and progress. The rescue has helped dozens of horses, including wild Mustangs, and has participated in the Bureau of Land Management’s adoption incentive program as well as efforts involving Yakima Reservation Mustangs. Visitors can learn about the horses available for adoption and submit an adoption application.

WRER also offers rescue sponsorship opportunities and welcomes volunteers. No previous horse experience is required; volunteers receive training to help care for the horses. Donations and community participation support the organization’s ongoing rescue work
