Wilstem

Wilstem is a remarkable brand that offers an unforgettable experience where you can meet extraordinary animals you never thought possible. With a focus on education and conservation, Wilstem aims to introduce visitors to their new favorite animal friends. Established as a small animal enclosure, Wilstem has since grown into something much greater.

The park now features a thrilling Drive-Thru Safari, allowing you to observe and interact with a diverse range of wildlife. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Wilstem expedited the opening of the Drive-Thru Safari to provide a safe and socially distant activity for visitors. Steeped in rich history, Wilstem originated in 1915 when Ed Ballard, a renowned local entrepreneur, purchased the property.

Over the years, it transformed from a hunting ground to a personal getaway spot before visionary Jerry Fuhs acquired it in 1989. Fuhs meticulously restored the property, preserving its original buildings and enhancing its natural beauty. This dedication led to the addition of new cabins, a covered bridge, and expanded barns.

As Wilstem evolved, additional activities were introduced, including the renowned French Lick Ziplines. In 2015, a herd of African elephants decided to stay on the property for three months, leading to the establishment of Elephant Encounters as a permanent experience. Continuing to expand their offerings, Giraffe Encounters, Roos and Crew Encounters, Grizzly Encounters, and Asian Small Clawed Otter Encounters have also been added to the park.

Today, Wilstem Wildlife Park is not just a leisure destination but also a hub for animal conservation. Through their non-profit organization, Wilstem is dedicated to preserving endangered species, with a particular focus on elephant conservation. Consider supporting their cause by donating to their 501c3 non-profit.
