About WIM SENEGAL
Women In Mining Sénégal (WIM Sénégal) is a network established in October 2012 to connect women in the mining sector in Senegal and promote female leadership in the industry. WIM Sénégal aims to strengthen the socio-economic and professional interests of women through education, inclusion, and innovation. Their approach revolves around female leadership, advocacy, volunteering, and networking to achieve their goals.
WIM Sénégal envisions a fair, inclusive, and egalitarian extractive sector that provides women with a conducive environment for their empowerment, respects their fundamental rights, and ensures equal access to resources and benefits. The organization's president, Aida Diop Ndiaye, leads their commitment to this cause.
One of WIM Sénégal's major initiatives is Girls For Mining (G4M), created in 2015. G4M promotes scientific, technical, engineering, and mathematical (STEM) education among young girls, preparing them for careers in mining, oil, and gas. This initiative aims to address early school dropout rates among girls, increase their presence in STEM fields, support their career orientation, and provide opportunities within their communities.
WIM Sénégal also offers a virtual community platform called Wims'Link, which promotes female leadership in the extractive industries. It serves as an educational space for sharing practices and monitoring the social commitments of the extractive industries.
By working towards their mission and collaborating with partners like Next Generation Khadidiatou Jallow, WIM Sénégal strives to empower women and young girls and create a more inclusive and equal extractive sector.
