Welcome to the Saint Paul Winter Carnival, the oldest winter festival in the United States! Since 1886, we have been bringing family-friendly events and community pride to Saint Paul and the Twin Cities metro area. Our festival showcases all the beauty and wonder of Minnesota winters, with activities and attractions for everyone to enjoy. At the heart of the Winter Carnival is our rich history and tradition.

Inspired by the Montreal Festival, our festival features stunning ice castles, snow sculptures, and a cast of iconic characters including King Boreas, the Queen of the Snows, and the mischievous Vulcan and his red-caped Krewe. The Winter Carnival Legend, first written down in 1937, continues to captivate audiences to this day. Our festival is made possible by the dedicated efforts of volunteers, including our Royal Family and the Vulcan Krewe, who make over 400 appearances each year.

The Winter Carnival is produced by the Saint Paul Festival and Heritage Foundation and funded by private donations and corporate contributions. Join us for a winter wonderland like no other at the Saint Paul Winter Carnival. Help us continue this 130+ year-old tradition and celebrate the beauty of winter in Minnesota.
