The World Maritime University (WMU) is a postgraduate university serving the global maritime community through education, research and capacity building. Recognized by the International Maritime Organization and the United Nations General Assembly, it contributes to maritime and ocean development and promotes women’s participation in these sectors.

WMU offers programmes in maritime affairs, including PhD, MSc and MPhil degrees, as well as postgraduate diplomas and an LLM. Study options cover areas such as international maritime law, ocean policy, transport and logistics, maritime safety, environmental management, marine insurance, maritime energy and executive management. The university also provides distance learning, professional development through Education for Professional Excellence, an English and Study Skills Programme, a Summer Academy and e-learning solutions.

Alongside its teaching, WMU conducts research, publishes reports and supports capacity building through projects and its Global Ocean Institute. Its international alumni network includes more than 6,600 graduates from 171 countries and territories, many of whom work in maritime government, industry, ports, education and international organizations.
