Manatū Wāhine Ministry for Women is the Government's leading authority dedicated to enhancing the lives of wāhine women and kōtiro girls in Aotearoa New Zealand. Our mission is to ensure that the voices and perspectives of women and girls are heard and incorporated into the development of government policies and initiatives. We provide a wide range of tools and advice to promote better outcomes for the communities we serve.

As a system leader, we collaborate with various government agencies and organizations to address gender-related issues such as pay equity, pay transparency, and family and sexual violence. Our work is guided by four strategic outcomes: improved outcomes for Wāhine Māori, social and economic wellbeing for all women and girls, full participation in society, and safety from all forms of violence. We prioritize partnerships with Māori and strive to fulfill our obligations under Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

Our commitment extends to all women, including transgender women, recognizing the diversity of women and girls in New Zealand. We advocate for improved outcomes for specific groups such as Māori, Pacific women, migrant women, women with disabilities, and the LGBTQIA+ community. Our current initiatives include providing advice to the Minister for Women, implementing the Women's Employment Action Plan, coordinating the government's response to the Mana Wāhine Kaupapa Inquiry, and leading gender analysis across government.

We also support women's participation on public sector boards and committees and collaborate on equal pay and pay transparency initiatives. Led by Minister Jan Tinetti, we have a dedicated leadership team working towards our ambitious goals as outlined in our Statement of Intent for 2021-2025.
