Women for Sobriety (WFS) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to helping women achieve and maintain sobriety from alcohol and other substances. Founded in 1975 by Jean Kirkpatrick, PhD, WFS offers an abstinence-based, secular approach centered on its New Life Program and 13 Acceptance Statements. The program provides tools to help women replace destructive patterns with healthy habits, supporting emotional growth, self-esteem, and a balanced lifestyle.
WFS hosts more than 95 free weekly recovery meetings, both online and in person, led by trained peer facilitators. Women can also connect through WFS Online, a password-protected community with groups reflecting different life stages, professional interests, and identities. For friends and family members supporting someone affected by addiction, the CARE (Community Awareness and Recovery Education) program offers secular meetings grounded in science and kindness. WFS also provides articles, Monday Thoughts, educational resources, volunteer opportunities, and merchandise. Its programs welcome women over 18 seeking sobriety, and access to its meetings and online community is free.
