Women in Ocean Science (WOS) is a non-profit female empowerment organization dedicated to promoting gender equality in marine science and conservation. Their mission is to empower women to thrive in ocean-related careers and learning environments by tackling gendered issues in the industry.
WOS believes that supporting women is crucial to protecting the ocean, and they aim to create an international movement that elevates the voices of female scientists working to preserve our marine environment. Since 2018, WOS has been actively closing the gender gap through education, celebration, and empowerment.
Their initiatives focus on ending bias, discrimination, and harassment, ensuring that women feel safe and confident in their careers. WOS also aims to inspire the next generation of women to pursue marine science, regardless of their race, background, or gender.
Furthermore, WOS is committed to increasing accessibility and breaking down socio-economic and educational barriers, preparing women to become active stewards of the marine environment. They strive to amplify and promote female voices, research, and stories in marine science, challenging stereotypes, and providing visibility to female role models.
WOS has built the largest global network of women in ocean science and conservation, creating a supportive and uplifting community for female scientists, conservationists, and ocean advocates.
Join WOS in their efforts to create a more inclusive and diverse marine science community, where all women have a seat at the table.
