Woodend & District Heritage Society preserves and shares the history of Woodend and its surrounding district. Through historical research, local records, photographs, articles and publications, the Society helps people explore both the area’s past and their family connections. Its website features stories about local landmarks, businesses, transport and community life, from historic hotels and shops to the Five Mile Creek bridge and the Woodend bread carts.

The Society publishes books on subjects including early settlement, local hotels, family histories and residents who served in war. It also offers practical resources and services for people researching the district, including cemetery burial records, access to digitised issues of The Woodend Star and a research service for those unable to visit Woodend. The Heritage Walk commemorates local people and organisations through plaques, with new plaques dedicated each year.

The Society acknowledges the Dja Dja Wurrung, Taungurung and Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Peoples as the traditional owners of the land where it meets, works and lives, and pays respect to Elders past, present and emerging.
