The Refuge de l’Angoumois, located on the edge of the Braconne forest in Charente, France, is a dedicated no-kill sanctuary for animals in need. Established in 2007 on the site of a former American Army base, the refuge provides a safe haven for stray, abandoned, and abused pets, with a special focus on dogs and cats. The facility features extensive enclosures, a purpose-built cattery, and veterinary care, ensuring all animals receive high-quality food, shelter, and medical attention.

Each year, the Refuge rehomes over 500 dogs, while also caring for numerous kittens, many of whom are rescued from life-threatening situations. The refuge operates separately from the local pound, which handles stray animals funded by local councils. Committed to rehabilitation, the staff and volunteers strive to minimize stress and maximize comfort for the animals.
