Wordle is a popular word puzzle game built around a simple daily challenge: players try to identify a hidden five-letter English word in six guesses. After each attempt, color-coded tiles show whether letters are correct and correctly placed, present in the word but misplaced, or absent. This feedback turns each round into a compact exercise in vocabulary, deduction, and strategy.
The game’s daily format gives players around the world the same puzzle, while statistics track results such as win percentage, streaks, and guess distribution. Players can also share spoiler-free results as colored grids, and Hard Mode requires them to use revealed clues in later guesses. The game was developed by Josh Wardle and acquired by The New York Times in 2022.
It is available through browser and mobile platforms. The page also describes Wordle Unlimited, a separate version offering repeated play, variable word lengths, and custom puzzles, alongside other casual games such as Geometry Dash
