Through Working Lands for Wildlife (WLFW), NRCS works with partners and private landowners to focus voluntary conservation on working landscapes. NRCS provides technical and financial assistance to agricultural producers, helping them plan and implement conservation practices that benefit target species and priority landscapes. Since 2012, NRCS has restored and protected 6.7 million acres of much-needed habitat for a variety of wildlife. These efforts have led to the rebound and recovery of many species, demonstrating the WLFW conservation model works.

About Working Lands for Wildlife
Working Lands for Wildlife (WLFW) is a voluntary conservation initiative led by the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), working with partners and private landowners across the eastern, southern, central, and midwestern United States. It supports conservation on working landscapes by helping agricultural producers plan and carry out practices that benefit wildlife, restore habitat, and sustain rural economies. Since 2012, NRCS and its partners have restored or protected 6.7 million acres of habitat, contributing to the rebound and recovery of multiple species.
WLFW focuses on landscape-scale conservation, using priority ecosystems and “umbrella species” to guide efforts for wildlife and their habitats. Its online portal offers information on conservation frameworks, target species, landowner resources, NRCS programs, training, publications, and access to experts. Visitors can also use decision-support and conservation tools, including the SE FireMap for exploring fire activity, AquaCorridors for aquatic conservation planning, BirdLocale for gathering bird recordings and field data, and a mobile app that helps track Northern Bobwhite. Through these resources, WLFW connects landowners, researchers, agencies, and conservation organizations.
