From Waste to Wonder is a creative workshop initiative that helps children explore sustainability through hands-on making. Designed primarily for ages seven to sixteen, its environmental-impact workshop invites participants to turn recycled materials into their own toys. Materials can include coffee grounds, potato starch, and casein, introducing children to alternatives to conventional resources while encouraging curiosity about how everyday waste can be reused.

The experience follows a six-step process, from developing material recipes to shaping a finished toy. Children take an active role throughout, learning by experimenting, making decisions, and bringing their ideas to life. The workshop aims to spark imagination and build environmental awareness, helping participants develop a more sustainable mindset through play and creative exploration.

From Waste to Wonder is developed and led by Jamie van Duuren, a product designer and material researcher whose work focuses on social impact. Workshops are intended for settings such as schools, museums, and community centers. Although currently designed for children, the format can be adapted for teenagers, professional designers, or older adults.
