World Butchers' Challenge is a prestigious competition and a global community that promotes excellence in the butchery industry. It goes beyond being just an event, focusing on learning, sharing, and believing in a greater good for the industry. The competition challenges butchers to surpass current industry standards in meat cutting, workmanship, displaying, and creative usage of beef, lamb, pork, and chicken products.

During the three-hour and thirty-minute competition, teams are given a side of beef, a side of pork, a whole lamb, and five chickens, which they transform into a themed display of value-added products. Independent judges score each team based on technique, skill, workmanship, product innovation, overall finish, and presentation.

Recognizing the importance of the next generation, the World Butchers' Challenge also includes the World Champion Butcher Apprentice & Young Butcher competition. This contest allows young butchers under 35 and apprentice butchers to showcase their skills in breaking down primal cuts into a range of predetermined and personalized products.

The World Butchers' Challenge has a rich history, starting in 2011 as a competition between New Zealand and Australia, and evolving into a global event with countries like the United Kingdom, France, and Ireland showcasing their talents. In 2022, the competition was held in Sacramento with exciting additions like Canada, Iceland, Portugal, and Wales.
