About World Diamond Council
World Diamond Council (WDC) is an industry association dedicated to upholding the integrity of natural diamonds and their supply chain. Established in 2000 to combat the trade of conflict diamonds, the WDC now extends its mission to ensure that all diamonds adhere to universal principles of human rights, labor rights, anti-corruption, and anti-money laundering. Membership in the WDC includes businesses and organizations from all sectors of the diamond industry, spanning from rough diamond producers to retail jewelers.
The organization plays a vital role in the Kimberley Process (KP), working with 89 governments and civil society representatives to develop regulations that prevent conflict diamonds from entering the legitimate supply chain. As an Observer, the WDC collaborates with KP Participants to restrict the trade of embargoed diamonds. The WDC fulfills its mission through international advocacy, industry education, collaboration with other organizations, and the development of tools that protect the diamond distribution chain.
A key program is the WDC System of Warranties, which requires buyers and sellers to provide a warranty statement on sales documents, ensuring that diamonds originate from KP-compliant sources and are handled responsibly and ethically. With a rich history dating back to its establishment in 2000, the WDC has played a central role in shaping the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme (KPCS). In 2021, the organization launched a revised System of Warranties, demonstrating a broader commitment to universal ethical business principles
