About National Monuments Service
World Heritage Ireland is dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the country's cultural and natural heritage, as recognized by the World Heritage Convention established by UNESCO in 1972. This initiative aims to safeguard locations that possess outstanding universal value (OUV), ensuring their protection for future generations. The organization oversees four World Heritage sites in Ireland, namely Brú na Bóinne, Sceilg Mhichíl, and the Giant’s Causeway and Causeway Coast, as well as the newly inscribed Moravian Church Settlements.
Through active collaboration with local authorities and stakeholders, World Heritage Ireland facilitates the nomination process for sites aspiring to join the prestigious World Heritage List. Their efforts include comprehensive management plans, stakeholder engagement, and public awareness campaigns to foster appreciation of these treasures. Additionally, the World Heritage Online Map Platform enhances the understanding and monitoring of these sites, aligning with the sustainable development goals to protect our shared heritage while promoting community involvement in conservation efforts
