World Plants

World Plants is a botanical database and reference resource focused on the diversity and classification of plants. Its website provides a searchable plant list, with results limited to valid names, and offers ways to explore information by Latin name, distribution, distribution code, and common name. The resource also presents plants through a Tree of Life linear sequence and provides country statistics and checklists, information on species counts, and background material about generally invalid names. Additional sections cover abbreviations and deeplinks, the database’s history, its author, cooperations, literature, and news. The extensive classification filters let visitors navigate plant groups by order or family, spanning ferns, gymnosperms, and flowering plants. World Plants also invites contributions and identifies revisors, indicating that the database supports ongoing input and review. Overall, it serves as an online tool for looking up plant names and exploring botanical classification and distribution through organized lists and reference information.
