World Weather Attribution (WWA) is a research initiative formed in 2014 to investigate how climate change affects the intensity and likelihood of extreme weather events. Using weather observations and climate models, its studies also examine how human vulnerability and exposure shape impacts, helping identify actions needed to prepare for changing extremes.
WWA conducts rapid attribution studies, often soon after an event or while it is unfolding, to address the question of how climate change influenced it. The initiative has completed more than 100 studies covering heatwaves, extreme rainfall, drought, floods, wildfires, cold spells and storms around the world. Its analyses explain the risks associated with these hazards, from disrupted water and food supplies to flooding, wildfire and impacts on transport and energy systems.
The organization shares its findings through analysis reports, peer-reviewed research, methodological papers, news and a study tracker. It also provides information for journalists and publishes details about its research methods.
