About Wombs of the World
Wombs of the World Foundation is a nonprofit working to improve maternal health worldwide by uplifting, educating, and connecting birthworkers. Its mission centers on dignity in birth, mothers’ autonomy, and lasting change led by local communities. The Foundation supports community-led initiatives that strengthen clinics and traditional midwifery, while helping midwives, doulas, and other birthworkers access scholarships, mentorship, and training. It also develops accessible educational resources that bring traditional knowledge together with evidence-based medicine, promoting respectful, compassionate care.
Its programs include birthwork scholarships, maternal health education, and support for preserving ancestral practices. Donations help fund practical improvements identified with partner communities, such as maternal and newborn supplies, clean water and sanitation, maternity-room upgrades, and clinical equipment. The Foundation also offers a clinical immersion program in Tanzania, inviting experienced medical professionals to take part in a cultural and clinical exchange focused on respectful birth care. Through these initiatives, Wombs of the World Foundation aims to strengthen local care, expand birthworkers’ opportunities, and support mothers, babies, and communities across generations.
