The Welsh Pony and Cob Society of New Zealand is a breed society established in 1966 to preserve Welsh ponies and cobs and maintain an accurate record of those bred in New Zealand. Its work is centred on the New Zealand Welsh Stud Book, available through an online registry that provides access to equine records and features such as horse details, pedigrees, tail lines, siblings and offspring.

The society registers purebred Welsh ponies and cobs whose ancestry can be traced to Welsh registers on all sides. Its studbook covers four recognised types: the Welsh Mountain Pony (Section A), Welsh Pony (Section B), Welsh Pony of Cob type (Section C) and Welsh Cob (Section D). Each section has distinct characteristics, while the breeds share valued character, versatility and temperament. The society also maintains a Welsh Partbred Register for ponies with at least 12.5% Welsh blood in their parentage. Through registration and record-keeping, it supports the preservation and documentation of Welsh breeds in New Zealand.
