The Wetlands Regional Monitoring Program (WRMP) is a collaborative initiative focused on the wetlands of the San Francisco Estuary. It coordinates environmental monitoring to help improve the success and cost-effectiveness of wetland restoration, support science-based decisions, and guide adaptive management. Its work addresses the extent and condition of wetlands, water quality, sea-level rise, and the plants, fish, wildlife, and people connected to these habitats.
The WRMP monitors historic wetlands alongside restored sites at different stages of recovery, using a shared science framework to guide data collection and inform future management. It provides public access to monitoring results, metrics, geospatial information, data visualizations, technical documents, and educational resources. These tools help wetland managers, regulators, local governments, community members, and funders understand changes and respond to environmental hazards and coastal flooding.
The program works with cities, counties, Tribes, nonprofit organizations, regulators, researchers, and restoration experts. Through regional partnerships, open data, reports, webinars, newsletters, and events, the WRMP advances knowledge and collaboration to support healthier wetlands and a more resilient estuary.
