Xavier is a Brisbane-based organisation supporting children and young people with complex disabilities and related health needs, as well as their families. With roots dating to the late 1940s, when the Xavier Society established a home in Coorparoo for children affected by polio, Xavier has evolved from hospital-based care to community-focused support. For more than 75 years, it has provided tailored, multidisciplinary services to help children with high support needs participate in family and community life and pursue the activities they enjoy.
Its service area includes Brisbane and surrounding suburbs, including Ipswich, Logan and Moreton Bay. Services include individualised support at home and in the community, short-term respite at Xavier Place, nursing, occupational and physiotherapy, speech, music and art therapy, and dietitian support. Xavier also offers equipment advice and home or vehicle modification guidance, community therapy clinics, therapy support in schools, and assistance accessing mainstream childcare.
