Hühnerzeit offers a hands-on experience of keeping chickens by renting hens to families, schools, kindergartens, senior residences and other community groups. Based in Matzlow-Garwitz, the service operates around Hamburg and across parts of northern Germany, including areas around Schwerin and Rostock. Customers receive a group of five hens selected from a varied flock of more than 100 chickens, with breeds and availability varying.

The hens arrive with a mobile coop, accessories, feed and water equipment, a secure enclosure and an automatic coop door. Hühnerzeit delivers and sets up the equipment, provides an on-site introduction, remains available throughout the rental and handles collection, dismantling and final cleaning. Customers can keep the eggs laid during the rental.

The service is designed to make chicken keeping manageable, with equipment that helps care continue over weekends. It also offers an opportunity to learn about animal care, enjoy time outdoors and experience fresh eggs at home or in an educational or care setting. Hühnerzeit can exchange hens if problems arise
