Huvikumpu is a private, five-place small group home in Äänekoski, Finland, providing short-term, around-the-clock care for children and young people with disabilities or developmental support needs. The service supports families’ wellbeing and can be used during informal care providers’ respite days or at other times when care is needed. Stays are arranged flexibly with families and may last from one day to three weeks. Huvikumpu serves families in Central Finland and across Finland, working in partnership with wellbeing services counties.

Care is rehabilitation-oriented and shaped around each child’s wishes and abilities. Children help plan and take part in daily activities, which include arts and crafts, exercise, music, baking, outings and outdoor play, with time to rest when needed. The home also organises themed weekends, summer camps and excursions. Daily routines are structured using PCS pictures, while communication support includes signs, picture communication and individual assistive tools. Staff plan each child’s care with the family before the first stay, maintain contact during visits as requested, and provide a written summary afterward.
