York Coronary Support Group Trust (YCSGT) is a registered charity established in 1988 to support people with cardiac conditions and their families after illness and discharge from hospital. Working alongside the rehabilitation programme that begins in the Coronary Care Unit at York District Hospital, the group aims to help members return to as normal a life as possible. YCSGT offers opportunities to meet others with heart-related concerns, share experiences, exchange advice, make friends and take part in social activities.
Its programme includes swimming and aqua aerobics, fitness activities and exercise videos, alongside group events and peer support. The charity has relocated its swimming sessions to New Earswick swimming pool following changes to the pool programme previously provided through Roko and Swimtime Ltd. YCSGT is supported by a committee, with roles including chairperson, publicity officer and group secretary, and welcomes people interested in volunteering.
Through practical activities, shared experience and social connection, the Trust provides ongoing support for cardiac patients and their families in the York area
