In 2018, the sanctuary closed its doors, but the passionate owners, Katy and Jonathan Ordway, stepped in to ensure the well-being of the resident animals. They have made significant improvements to the property, including the creation of a two-acre bear enclosure with a pond, waterfall, and night house.

Looking ahead, the new Yellow River Wildlife Sanctuary is dedicated to promoting animal appreciation and wildlife education. They have developed various programs for schools, homeschoolers, and the general public. Their ultimate goal is to provide animals with enriching activities, high-quality diets, and well-maintained habitats.
