York Astronomical Society is a charitable organisation founded in 1972 to demonstrate, educate and promote astronomy and spaceflight in the York area. Registered as a charity in 2017, the Society brings together people interested in exploring the night sky and learning about the wider universe. Its observatory is located at Beetle Bank Farm, where visitors can discover the facility and take part in astronomy activities.
The Society offers regular public meetings featuring guest speakers, as well as star parties that give participants opportunities to observe the sky. Its programme also includes astronomy presentations, events such as Crescent Moon Watch, and activities for young people through York Young Astronomers. Members and the public can find information about upcoming events, astronomical highlights, and what may be visible in the sky through the Society’s website. Additional resources include articles, guides, blogs, bulletins, and a gallery. York Astronomical Society also provides information about joining, donating, and accessing its observatory and activities, supporting wider public engagement with astronomy and spaceflight.
