York Model Boat Club

York Model Boat Club (YMBC) is a longstanding, friendly community for model boating enthusiasts in York and North Yorkshire. The club sails at Laytham Park Lake, near York, where it has its own sailing lake and clubhouse. Members bring a range of model boats, including ships, and enjoy regular sailing, conversation and the chance to share practical advice. The club welcomes newcomers, whether they are considering joining, seeking guidance or simply interested in watching the boats.

Members sail on Saturdays and Wednesdays throughout the year, with Wednesday sailing starting at 1:30 pm. The club also holds regattas and special display days, inviting other local clubs to show their models and join the sailing. These events are open to everyone, and children and parents can try radio-controlled boating using the club’s boats. Night sails, photo galleries, videos, a calendar and information about the club’s history and awards provide further ways to explore its activities. YMBC sails all types of model boats except those powered by internal-combustion engines.
