Young Writers is a children’s writing organisation that has inspired young writers since 1991. It offers free national writing contests and resources designed to help children and young adults enjoy writing, build confidence, and take pride in their work. US schools can participate, and parents can also enter children independently in eligible contests.
The programme provides teachers and families with free resources and engaging themes to spark ideas. Young writers can submit poems and stories, which are read by Young Writers’ editors. Selected participants have the opportunity to become published authors in a real book, and schools receive a free book when their students are published. The organisation also offers prizes for schools and students.
Contests cover a range of ages and interests, with examples including Monster Mayhem, Camp Scare, SOS Sagas: Wanted, Fright Club, and Winter Words.
