About YOUR TURN EVENTS
The South West Japan Festival (SWJF) is an annual celebration that brings a vibrant slice of Japanese culture to Western Australia, specifically in the coastal city of Bunbury. Celebrating its eighth year, the festival honors the long-standing Sister City relationship between Bunbury and Setagaya City in Japan, commemorating 32 years of international friendship. The festival offers a remarkable array of activities, including workshops, themed dinners, food tastings, music and dance performances, and interactive events for families.
Matsuri Day, the festival's official day of celebration, features live performances, food trucks, workshops, and local stalls, all set against the beautiful backdrop of Bunbury's Queens Gardens. Since its inception in 2018, SWJF has expanded its reach to neighboring areas like Busselton, Dunsborough, and Margaret River, growing each year with innovative events such as sake tastings and a stunning Floating Lantern Festival. Managed by passionate locals, the SWJF is a significant cultural event that immerses attendees in the rich heritage of Japan
