ZaanseZilversmedennl

ZaanseZilversmeden.nl is a heritage-focused association dedicated to researching and sharing the history of silver in the Zaanstreek region of the Netherlands. Its work brings attention to local silversmiths, silver shops, church silver, makers’ marks, and historic objects that have often been overlooked. Archival research has uncovered evidence of dozens of silversmiths working in Zaandam and Krommenie before 1800, when the area’s silver was assayed in Haarlem. The association connects records, maker’s marks, family histories, and surviving objects to explain this regional craft tradition.

Its research also covers four centuries of silver businesses and workshops, silver owned by Zaan churches, the Jewish jeweller family S.I. Vet & Zonen, and objects that illuminate local history. The website makes findings accessible through articles, publications, and exhibitions, and features a monthly silver object with information about its origin, maker, marks, significance, and craftsmanship. Visitors can explore publications, learn to identify marks on their own silver, and follow news about discoveries and activities.
