About ZAKA
ZAKA South Africa is an integral part of the world-renowned organization, ZAKA International Rescue and Recovery. Established in 1995, ZAKA operates globally and has 52 international volunteer units, with South Africa being one of them. Our dedicated team of volunteers is available 24/7 to respond to local and global disasters, always ready to save those who can be saved and honor those who cannot.
Our mission is rooted in the utmost respect for the living and the dead. We have different teams that work collaboratively to fulfill our mission. These include Light Urban Search and Rescue, Chessed Shel Emes, Relief and Rehabilitation, Fire Containment, and Population Intelligence.
Each team plays a crucial role in deploying to disaster scenes, providing assistance to affected victims as quickly as possible. In addition to our primary mission, ZAKA South Africa also focuses on fire containment, providing relief to both the Jewish community and the broader community, and tracking and analyzing population behavior during crises through our Population Intelligence team. As a volunteer-based organization, we rely on the support of generous individuals to sustain our operations.
