About ZERI
ZERI, or Zero Emissions Research and Initiatives, is a pioneering research network founded in 1994 by Gunter Pauli, with support from the United Nations and the Japanese government. The organization promotes a zero-waste methodology that underpins the principles of the Blue Economy. Since its inception, ZERI has focused on translating visionary ideas and scientific knowledge into practical projects, emphasizing the importance of utilizing local resources to meet fundamental human needs.
With a global presence spanning four continents, ZERI has been involved in nearly two hundred projects over the past two decades, all designed to connect previously unlinked industries. This includes initiatives in mushroom cultivation, sustainable bamboo construction, integrated agriculture, and innovative waste management in brewing. ZERI is committed to an open-source approach, sharing knowledge to inspire sustainable solutions. By illustrating how the waste of one process can nourish another, ZERI embodies the philosophy of the Blue Economy, crafting a sustainable framework for future economic practices and environmental stewardship.
