About Zero Trash
**Zero Trash** is a dedicated social enterprise focused on advancing reforestation efforts and fostering a deeper connection between people and nature. Founded in 2010, Thuru—meaning 'trees' in Sinhala—aims to combat the declining forest coverage in Sri Lanka, which plummeted from 37% in 1990 to just 28% by 2016. This alarming reduction threatens the nation’s biodiversity, a point underscored by their ambitious goal to plant 2 million trees.
Zero Trash offers innovative solutions for afforestation and regeneration, supported by technology and community engagement. The organization collaborates with various partners to inspire youth to embrace tree planting as a meaningful trend. They provide resources such as the ZeroTrash Store, where eco-friendly products can be purchased, alongside educational projects like Thuru Research that enhance environmental policies.
