Zero Waste Alliance Ireland (ZWAI) is an environmental charity and NGO that promotes a shift in current discard and disposal practices towards a circular economy. As a nationally based organization, ZWAI is a member of the Irish Environmental Network (IEN) and the Environmental Pillar of Social Partnership, receiving funding from the Irish Government through the DCCAE. Established in 2004, ZWAI operates as a not-for-profit policy-oriented organization that focuses on Zero Waste principles, considering waste as a valuable resource.

At ZWAI, the vision is for human communities to emulate natural ecosystems, living harmoniously within the natural flow of energy and recycling wastes back into the earth's systems. ZWAI believes that transitioning to a zero waste society is achievable through a holistic approach, including waste elimination by redesigning products, cleaner production techniques, repair, recycling, re-use, and composting. ZWAI's work involves formulating policy documents, lobbying the government on sustainable resource management, and raising concerns regarding Ireland's waste issues.

They aim to foster environmentally sustainable waste management policies, resource efficiency, waste reduction, circular economy practices, and the promotion of re-use, repair, and recycling. ZWAI consists of a network of dedicated volunteer members who contribute to the organization's policymaking, overseen by a democratically elected management board. They also employ a part-time researcher and membership secretary.

As a registered charity, ZWAI strives to tackle the climate crisis by working towards a greener future and is supported by funding from the Irish Government distributed through the IEN
