Živá paměť

Živá paměť is a Czech nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life of people persecuted by totalitarian regimes and preserving their memories. Its work focuses especially on survivors of Nazi persecution and the Roma Holocaust, as well as their families and communities. Through contact centres in Prague, České Budějovice, Olomouc, Ostrava and Ústí nad Labem, the organization offers social rehabilitation, psychosocial support and advice on social benefits and services. It also creates opportunities for survivors to meet and share their experiences.

For the wider public, Živá paměť presents the history of persecution through travelling and online exhibitions, publications, documentary films and memorial activities. Its educational programmes, resources and events help teachers and students explore modern history, forced labour and the lives of Roma people during and after the Second World War. These initiatives connect personal testimony with historical learning, supporting remembrance across generations. By combining practical assistance with education and cultural projects, Živá paměť helps ensure that survivors’ experiences are acknowledged and their stories remain part of public understanding.
