Zootier-Lexikon is an educational reference website focused on animals, plants, habitats, and the role of zoological institutions in conservation. Its purpose is to support zoos, aquariums, animal parks, and wildlife parks by providing background information about species displayed in Europe, including species that were shown there in the past. The site also explains the animals’ natural habitats and aspects of zoo animal care and husbandry.

Its central offering is a broad online encyclopedia organized by biological groups. Visitors can explore mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish, invertebrates, domestic animals, and plants, as well as browse information about habitats across the world and a glossary of specialist terms. The resource includes species articles and supporting material intended to help readers build knowledge of biodiversity and understand why species knowledge matters for conservation. Sections on zoo keeping address topics such as animals’ needs, enclosure conditions, and the purposes of modern zoos, including education, research, recreation, and nature conservation. Zootier-Lexikon is an informational and educational resource rather than a product-focused retailer.
