Users can search the database and consult related codebooks, which explain the values and meanings of recorded data through keywords.

The database is intended for professionals in healthcare and public health, researchers, policymakers and students, as well as organizations such as hospitals, universities, public health services, research institutes and government bodies. Its aim is to provide an authoritative catalogue of Dutch registrations and help prevent duplicate data collection. Registration holders supply the information and are responsible for the descriptions of their records. Current and recently updated sources are listed online, while information about older, discontinued registrations is also accessible through NARCIS.
