Zemessardze, the largest and most territorially represented structure of the National Armed Forces in Latvia, plays a critical role in national defense by engaging citizens in voluntary service. Through its programs, Latvia's citizens can enlist in various service durations, including 11 months or five years, with options for higher education students to participate in a reserve officer program.

Zemessardze is not only focused on military training but also emphasizes community involvement, allowing supporters to contribute in line with their civilian skills and competencies, thereby strengthening the defense sector. The organization conducts vital training exercises, such as the comprehensive national defense drills known as “Namejs,” which prepare participants for defense tasks and emergency responses, including fire and rescue operations.

Through its initiatives, Zemessardze invests in the preparation of its members for various roles, from combat support to public safety enforcement, encouraging individuals to forge a fulfilling military career that aligns with their dedication to serving Latvia.
