国立天文台 アルマ望遠鏡

ALMA, the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array, is an international radio astronomy project operating in Chile’s Atacama Desert. Built through cooperation among Japan, East Asia, North America, Europe and Chile, the observatory is led by Japan and is regarded as a powerful facility for exploring the universe. Its official website, presented by the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan, introduces ALMA’s mission, technology and international organization, and shares discoveries made through its observations.

Visitors can explore news, feature articles, event information, research highlights, photographs and videos. The site explains how the observatory was built and how scientists use it, and provides publications, research resources and information about general visits. For younger audiences, educational materials include ALMA Kids and illustrated guides to the telescope. The website also offers frequently asked questions, researcher information, recruitment details and updates about the Japanese ALMA project.

Through reports on topics such as young stars, distant galaxies and cosmic chemistry, ALMA connects scientific research with public learning and invites people to discover the mysteries of space.
