Ancient Song

Ancient Song is a nationally recognized birth justice organization focused on eliminating maternal and infant mortality and morbidity among low-income Black and Latinx communities. They are committed to providing high-quality, holistic doula care and services to pregnant, postpartum, and parenting individuals of color, regardless of their ability to pay. Ancient Song offers a range of services to the community, including direct doula services for low-income individuals, doula training programs to empower community members, and the distribution of necessary resources to doulas and community members.

They also provide evidence-based education on birth and reproductive justice, as well as advocate for policy change to eliminate racial and income inequities in birth outcomes. With a dedicated team of professionals, including their Founder and Executive Director Chanel Porchia-Albert, Perinatal Coordinators, and an Administrative Assistant, Ancient Song is able to serve their community effectively. Their service provision caters to a wide range of individuals, including those with fluid gender identities, teens, people pregnant while incarcerated, people in maternity shelters, survivors of sexual assault or trauma, and people with a history of substance use or mental health issues. Additionally, Ancient Song trains full-spectrum doulas who provide abortion, birth, postpartum, and antepartum care services.

Through community education initiatives, Ancient Song equips individuals with the knowledge and skills they need to make informed decisions about their reproductive health. They host workshops, conferences, and training sessions, including the renowned Decolonize Birth Conference. Furthermore, they ensure that their community has access to necessary resources through their Care Closet, which offers infant care and parenting supplies.

Ancient Song's impact extends beyond service provision and education. They actively advocate for policy change at the local, state, and federal levels, addressing systemic inequities in reproductive healthcare. By centering the voices of marginalized clients, Ancient Song aims to challenge discrimination, medical neglect, and the silencing of voices during the healthcare-seeking process.
