The Egyptian General Survey Authority is a national public body established in 1898 to map Egypt’s terrain and document land ownership. Originally known as the Survey Department, it became a public authority in 1971 and operates under the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation. Its work supports government planning, land administration, and the protection of public property.

The Authority provides surveying and mapping services, including topographic map production, printed and digital maps, historical maps, and coordinate certificates. It also carries out land-allocation decisions, boundary demarcation, checks for encroachments on state-owned property, and certificates identifying land elevation or building height. Its projects include fixed survey stations, efforts to unify coordinate systems nationwide, digital mapping initiatives, and updates to governorate boundaries.

Additional public services include daily prayer times for major Egyptian cities and determining the direction of prayer. The Authority also provides professional training through its training center and operates printing facilities. Through cooperation with governorates and other institutions, it contributes to surveying, documenting, and digitizing state land records.
