About IAG International Association of Geodesy
The International Association of Geodesy (IAG) is a global scientific organisation dedicated to advancing geodesy—the study of Earth’s shape, gravity field and rotation. Founded in 1862, IAG promotes research, data analysis, technology development and international cooperation to improve understanding of Earth and support a sustainable future. It is a constituent association of the International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics.
IAG’s work is organised through four commissions covering reference frames, the gravity field, Earth rotation and geodynamics, and positioning and applications. Inter-Commission Committees encourage collaboration on interdisciplinary topics, while long-term projects address challenges across the field. Its Global Geodetic Observing System (GGOS) brings together IAG’s components and supports consistent measurement and modelling of Earth system processes, including global change, deformation and exchanges of mass.
IAG services coordinate the collection and analysis of geodetic data and provide reference frames and other products for researchers, public administrations and society. The organisation also shares scientific news, events, jobs, educational resources and information about geodetic observations and data.
