Karttapaikka is an online mapping service provided by the National Land Survey of Finland. Open to everyone and free to use without registration, it lets users explore maps and geographic information covering the whole country. Users can search by place name or coordinates and view topographic maps, background maps, aerial imagery, shaded relief, and property locations. At detailed scales, maps can show property boundaries and identifiers; these are based on the property register and are indicative rather than a definitive measure of a property’s extent.

The service offers customizable map views, including a clearer, simplified map designed especially for people with visual impairments. Users can order tailored map prints, choosing the area, size, and scale, with digital and printed formats available for purchase. Karttapaikka also provides downloads of many map and geospatial datasets, including terrain data, aerial imagery, elevation models, place names, and property-register maps. Most downloadable datasets are free, while certain products, such as specified laser-scanning data, require payment and strong user identification.
