Waves to Weather

Waves to Weather (W2W) is a transregional collaborative research center associated with LMU Munich’s Meteorological Institute in the Faculty of Physics. It brings together researchers and participating institutions to advance the understanding and prediction of weather, with a focus reflected in its scientific projects, publications, meetings, and early-career and guest programs. W2W shares research updates and opportunities through its website, including news about scientific articles, presentations, and community events.

The center’s work spans topics such as subseasonal to seasonal forecasting, Central European cold winters, regional extreme precipitation, large-scale atmospheric flow patterns, and weather prediction data analysis. Its researchers also develop and use tools for visualizing meteorological information, including Met.3D, which has been presented to public audiences. W2W supports scientific exchange through annual meetings, seminars, special collections, and a newsletter, while also highlighting communication, equal opportunity, and open positions. Its activities connect research, collaboration, and the dissemination of knowledge about weather and atmospheric processes.
