WeatherTotals

WeatherTotals is a US-focused weather information service that makes observed conditions easy to compare by state and city. Its “scoreboard” covers weather that has already happened, presenting snowfall totals, year-to-date rainfall, recent hail reports, temperatures and frost information, alongside an estimate of aurora visibility by state. Visitors can explore state-level summaries and look up locations to see the figures and reporting stations behind them.

The site explains that its snow and rain displays show the highest recorded amount among tracked cities in each state, rather than a statewide average, reflecting how sharply precipitation can vary from place to place. Snow and rainfall observations come from GHCN-Daily station records, while hail totals are drawn from National Weather Service Local Storm Reports. Aurora estimates use Kp readings from NOAA’s Space Weather Prediction Center and indicate whether the aurora may be within reach of the northern horizon; they are not a guarantee of visibility. WeatherTotals provides source and time information for its figures and offers access to historical data for free.
